NC Speech and Debate competes virtually

Speech and debate is still going on, but with few differences from the years prior. In Lisa Gray’s room, 1070, the team starts practice at 3:30 pm and it ends at 5:30. The Speech and Debate  participants have to wear masks when they are practicing due to not being able to social distance.

The competitions are going to be online through February with a possibility of in person tournaments later in the season. This means the students won’t have to risk traveling outside of Casper, but they also miss out on the experience of going and competing against other schools face-to-face. The students  do get to be with each other in person, though.

Ian Iselin (12) said that being in the NC’s forensics team brings everyone closer and to him it is like a second family. Iselin also said that with everything going on, not being able to actually go to the competitions is easier on scheduling and members of the team won’t have to be gone from school as much as past years.

In Curtis Winfrey’s (12) opinion, “The online competitions are not as fun as doing them in person, but it will be better for school work and make it easier to get assignments in on time.” Winfrey’s favorite part of speech and debate is competing. Winfrey said competing is a good experience and is fun. It’s going to be different this year, but the speech and debate team may find new things to treasure and love about Speech and Debate.
