Natrona County High School’s indoor track team will begin practicing January 6 in the MAC athletics building. Indoor track offers new and old athletes the opportunity to compete and improve themselves.
“I think if they are unsure of what to do for a winter sport they should do indoor because it offers conditioning and preparation for other sports in the spring,” said senior Dylan Genzler.
Beyond preparing for other sports, the Mustangs also provide a sense of community, offering athletes a chance to connect with like-minded peers. “I think indoor track is a great sport to do. You get the team aspect, you get to do everything by yourself too, and then we got a good group, a good group of coaches,” said senior Logan Borden.
Indoor track athletes can compete in many different events, all falling into three broad categories: long distance races, short distance races, and field events. Within each area of competition student athletes can find a variety of coaches who will help them reach their goals.
Coming off of a 3rd place finish at the state championships last year, the Mustangs have high expectations for this season. “[we are] looking for a team state title. Looking for a new school record, new state record in the 400, 200, not gonna say any times, but that’s what I’m looking forward to,” said Borden.
