NC will play in Sheridan on Saturday for the right to go to the championships. Sheridan High won their last game, against Laramie, 48-6, and currently sit at number one in the state.
With NC ranked fourth, predictions are varied regarding the outcome. The Broncs stand at 10-0 and have won 41 games in a row. “They’re super disciplined, their whole team. I think they do a good job up front of being physical with all the teams they play,” said Tays Turnbull, a middle linebacker and tight end for the Mustangs.
NC’s football team is self evaluating and improving, trying to reach their best in order to win the state tournament. “We plan on changing up our lineman’s game, you know, to throw off Sheridan. We know all their stunts and what they plan to do and we’re ready for anything right now,” said offensive tackle Clarence Crutchfield.
The Mustang offense is led by quarterback Kana’i Olsen and wide receiver Rogan Potter. The defense is led by Tucker Sides and Gus Bertagnole.
Natrona County High School hosted Kelly Walsh for a quarter-final game last Friday at Cheney Alumni Field. Both teams were expecting a close game, but NC finished with the 28-10 win.
Weather conditions will be very important to how the game will turn out and our players’ success. The forecast is 58 degrees at kick-off with a seven mile per hour wind. During the previous game against KW, our players and fans experienced temperatures down to 35°F. “We just throw on warm gear, but (small)skilled players don’t wear anything,” said Turnbull, when asked about what they do to combat the cold.
