Senioritis cases rise

2021 NC seniors struggle to motivate themselves to finish their last semester of high school strongly. While Covid-19 cases have dropped in Natrona County and at NCHS, senioritis cases are continuing to grow in number and in strength. For some seniors, this last quarter is going to be more of a challenge than expected. A major source of stress for the seniors are their upcoming IB tests scheduled to begin April 29, 2021.

Senior Taylor Choal said her senioritis is at an all time high. Choal said that the NCSD’s decision to extend seniors’ last day from May 21, to May 25 due to the 3 snow days has made it a lot worse. Choal said she finds herself procrastinating a lot more than normal and is struggling to get all of her assignments done.

Procrastination seems to be a common side-effect of senioritis. Another senior, Harley Reeves ranked his senioritis an eight out of ten. “I’ve always left things to the last minute, but I find myself doing it more these days.” Reeves said he looks forward to graduating because going to college will allow him to experience a new routine.

The data also suggests that senioritis has grown since the end of the first semester. According to NCHS registrar Janelle Andrade 20% of seniors failed classes. This is a jump from 0.092% seniors failing classes first semester. However, it is crucial that seniors pass classes required for graduation, and it remains to be seen how many members of the class of 2021 will be unable to graduate.
