According to Natrona Offensive Coordinator Josh Anderson, NC and Cheyenne East are intense rivals in football. “We have had some exciting games over the past 15 years with many overtime and one-score games,” said Anderson. He explained that Cheyenne is always a well-prepared and a well-coached football team, proved by their close victory against Natrona last year. They pulled out the 14-13 win after blocking a potential game winning extra point in the final seconds.
Both teams are known to have different approaches. “We run a more ball-control style of play, where we want to win the time of possession and limit their time on the field,” said Anderson
Within Wyoming, Cheyenne East is ranked sixth and Natrona County is ranked fifteenth. This season NC is 3-2, and Cheyenne East is 4-1. NC’s goal is to go four yards per play and turn first downs into touchdowns, explains Anderson.
“The homecoming game kind of signifies the real kick off of the season at home. And homecoming is like a football game. It also kind of incites a whole week we have,” said Tayler Zanolli, a NCHS sophomore. She believes that the football game and everything that comes with it can help encourage student participation in school activities like spirit week.
