Today the homecoming assembly was held in the Dalton Gym. This assembly is a long-standing tradition in the school. Fall sports are introduced and recognized at the beginning of the assembly. The school sang the fight song and announced the homecoming court.
One of the most popular parts of the assembly is the Ballet Boys. The football players dress up in funny outfits and do silly dances and even sometimes the staff joins in. The Ballet Boys this year consisted of a team of eight boys and they all performed a dance, then at the end several individuals and pairs dance, and the crowd voted on 1 boy or pair to win . This year the overwhelming victor was Jayce Spears.
“Um, I like it. I mean, sometimes we do dumb, fun things that I think are fun. I think it’s fun to have student competitions and staff competitions,” said Jim Downs. The Homecoming Dance is a big event at NC. Abigail George is a respectable senior who is involved in clubs like DECA, Student Council, Key Club and Cheer. “I think it’s super crucial to our community as a whole. I mean, a lot of people, they look at assemblies and they’re like ugh, so boring right? But the Homecoming Assembly is like one of the only few assemblies people will actually attend because its like the first ones, so they think it might be important and its really fun,” said George.
This year StuCo didn’t have a rehearsal for the homecoming court and several members of the court felt like it made the recognition more rushed and unorganized. “I think it was very unorganized and they should’ve informed people about what was happening sooner instead of making people wait to find out till last minute,” said homecoming court member Reece Griffin.
StuCo announcer Aubrie Hines felt like the Ballet Boys performance was better than in years past and was more organized. “I feel as if it was more organized and performed better than in the past. I think that it was better to have one team and vote one person as the winner rather than having two teams and picking winning teams,” said Hines.
