“Greek Gods” was recently finalized for this year’s homecoming dance, which will be held on September 20th from 8-11pm in the commons. Student council met over the summer and brainstormed different options for school dances, deciding on themes with the help of student leaders and their adviser Ms. Gwilliam.
Freshman Emmett Myers explained a cool way to dress up for the Greek homecoming theme would be to do a creative combination of makeup and clothes to stand out beyond the ordinary. ”You don’t want to be normal because then you’ll be boring to other people,” said Myers.
There are plenty of activities planned for the week of homecoming, including spirit days, an assembly, and the school’s pre-homecoming celebration, called NatronaFest. This community event will be held on Thursday September 19th, the day before homecoming, from 6-8pm on the north commons lawn. According to Ms. Gwilliam, Student Council brings in a bunch of organizations, non profits, clubs and activities, and even food trucks. Attendees traditionally stay into the evening to witness the “Burning of the NC.”
“It’s like our big fall celebration for sports and activities, so we have a lot going on for our homecoming,” said Gwilliam.“We do an assembly where we get the football boys to do a ballet dance as a fundraiser. So there’s kind of a lot that is a hype up week for our sports.”
