NCHS Ghost Causes Track Infield Fire*

The  in-field of the track burned bright as flames licked the turf on January 31st. Although the fire has since been put out, questions remain. Who committed  this act and how? Why did they do it? A recent police report tells all.

At 1:50 am on Sunday, January 31, someone dumped a bottle of flammable liquid on the practice field and lit in on fire. According to Mark Johnson, the NCHS Campus Supervisor, the fire burned for about 10 minutes. The fire melted a 4 foot by 6 foot section of the field turf. This is a form of arson and is illegal. However, it is now known that this fire was started by the NC ghost.

Ghost is caught on film next to NCHS Fire damage. Origninally though to be the work of vandals, after consulting with Casper Area Paranormal Seekers, police have determined that the ghost Annabelle Lee Shepperson had caused the fire. Annabelle Lee Shepperson died while falling from the catwalk during a play rehearsal (according to local legend). Is the fire the beginning of a ghostly reign of terror? Only time will tell.*

One of the NCHS security cameras caught a blurry spot on the footage. Though at first it looked like a heat wave, when zoomed in, a ghost appeared. Witnesses to the fire also reported feeling cold hands and hearing ghostly wailing.

Investigating a haunted building requires different techniques. First, the police searched for special electromagnetic fields, indicators of paranormal activity. After consulting with Casper Area Paranormal Seekers, it was determined that the ghost Annabelle Lee Shepperson had caused the fire.

NCHS legend says that in the 1940s a girl fell to her death in the Jerry Walsh auditorium.  She was auditioning for a play, and had left her bag behind. By the time she realized this, the building was closed. She climbed through the window and broke her back. It is said that her ghost is sometimes seen in the lighting booth and that her ghostly laughter is often heard. It is also said that if anyone sits in her seat during a production, something will go wrong. A variation on this is that the student fell into an orchestra pit during a rehearsal, or that  a stage hand fell from the catwalk. According to the Trib, the only NCHS actress to die during this time period was Annabelle Lee Shepperson, an NCHS senior at the time.

What happens now? Campus security has installed a spectrometer to all security cameras in order to ensure that Shepperson doesn’t cause anymore damage.
